WELLINGTON PUBLISHING CO. ANNUAL MEETING i ■ " Tbs annual meeting of shareholders of the Wellington Publishing Comt pany was held at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday at noon, Dr. G. 1 E. Anson, chairman of directors j>re- . siding. The annual report of the directors’ 1 showed that the company had a successful year, and that the prospects ahead were particularly good. Tho progress of the company’s chief publication, The Dominion newspaper, had been most marked during the past twelve months, the increase in circulation being a specially noticeable feature. 5 A dividend at the rate of per J cent, was declared. LOAN AND MERCANTILE 3 The New Zealand Loan and Mercan- , tile Agency Company, Limited, has re--5 reived a cablegram from its London office, intimating that the company . will hold its annual meeting in London on December. 13 Revenue account ’ shows, after paying taxes, £45,933, ; and making provision for bad' and . doubtful debts, a balance of £160.582 Ils. 9d. After charging debentures ' stock interest £68.000. the balance is > £92.582 11s. 9d.. to which must be . added £18.448 Bs. Bd. brought forward' at Juno 30. 1922. making a total of > £111.03’1 os. sd. The interim dividend paid on preference stock and the , dividends now proposed to be paid, will absorb £90.000. leaving £21.031 Os. > 5. to be carried forward. The dividends proposed are:—Final dividend on nre- ; ference stock of 2J per cent, less En"- ; lish income tax. 2s. 21-d. in the £l. ; and on ordinary stock, a dividend of , 4 nor cent, free of English incomo tax. A better demand ruled T'ffstouts and heavies with substance, together with lighter elak-ses. Values were 'firm, but medium hides hod a dragging tendency, and were difficult to quit.
