COLLAPSE OF A BRIDGE
———4 FALLS 80 FEET INTO RIVER ONE MAN KILLED; ANOTHER INJURED By Telegraph—Press Association. Taihape, November 30. A bridge at Ohutu collapsed and fell eighty feet into tho river while being taken down this afternoon. Mr. AV. De B. Compton, the contractor. . a widower, aged seventy-nine, was thrown, into tho water and drowned before assistance arrived. His assistant. Mr. Samuel Miller, aged fortv-six. whose wife and live children live at Masterton. went down with the wreckage, and was seriously injured. He was taken to tho Taihape Hosuital. but the extent' of his injuries is not vet known.
It is believed that Mr. Compton comes from Invercargill. Among his belongings was a cold medal present ed bv the late 11. J. Seddon for lifesaving.
