THE CURING OF TROUT
STATE DEPOT AT ROTORUA The establishment of a depot for the cuiTiig and smoking of trout at Rotcrua has been decided upon. The Minister for Internal Affairs, the Hon. R. F. Bollard, informed an “Auckland Herald” reporter that it was Hoped to complete arrangements so •that fish may be accepted for treatment from December 1. Anglers who visit Lake Taupo speak in high terms of praise of the facilities ouered by the Government for the curing and smoking of trout. The depot which was established some years a"O' by the Internal Affairs Department, and is under the management of Mr. G. Reid, has proved a great convenience to fishermen, who wish to send their catches away. Iteprtjsentations were recently made that similar arrangements should apply to those who angle in the Rotorua lakes and streams. The work at Rotorua will be in charge of Mr. F. Moorhouse, conservator of fisheries and game. _ 'The charge of treating the fish will bo 10s. a dozen, the same rate as charged at Taupo. As the success of curing trout largely depends upon the manner in which, the fish are treated before being handed over to the cuter, the Minister emphasised that anglers should keep their catches under cover and deliver them to the dfepots on the day on which they were caught.
