DEEPLY-LADEN LINER
RECORD DRAUGHT AT LYTTELTON.
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Christchurch, November 29. When the liner lonic takes her departure from Lyttelton to-morrow she will be drawing 30 feet aft and about 30 feet forward. This draught. will constitute a record so far as a freightcarrier leaving Port Lyttelton is concerned. The Athenic in 1914 was dispatched from Lyttelton, drawing 28 feet forward and 30 feet aft, which has up to the present stood as the record" for a cargo carrier. H.M.S. Renown at the time of her visit was drawing 30 feet 5 inches forward and 21 feet 6 inches aft, so the lonic’s draught will be only about six inches short of tho Renown’s draught.
