TAXATION OF RACING CLUBS
PREMIER ASKED FOR REDUCTION
By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, June 7. A deputation from the racing clubs of Otago and Southland to-day asked the Prime Minister to reduce taxation. Mr. Hanlon, president of the Dunedin Jockey Club made a statement showing the loss last year as £1458. Taxation totalled ■628,488. They suggested the abolition of the tax of 21 per cent, on investments. Mr. Massey said that in Otago there had been a season of bad weather which was a factor in the loss. He thought the Government could do without the tax, but his first duty was to reduce taxation all round. In spite of the fact that some clubs ware »n difficulties, a deputation in the north recently asked him to grant 30 additional permits.
