POLICE AND MAINTENANCE CASES

Air. F. K. Hunt, S.AI., with police and maintenance cases .n the Alagistrate’s Court yesterday. A middle-aged man, AVilliam Smith, alias William Ernest ■ Smith, alias William Henry Cox, denied a charge of stealing £2 65., the property of a lodge er in a Frederick Street boardinghouse. After hearing the evidence, His Worship held that the case had not been established and dismissed the information.

“A Sunday drunk, and a.fourth offender.” Such was the police description of Frederick Joseph Gribble, who appeared for insobriety. His Worship: “£2 or a week. He’ll have to go to Rotoroa, if he does not look put'.’’ Charged with failing to maintain his wife. Allan AVilliam Wishart was remanded to appear at Chrstchurch on April 23.

MAINTENANCE APPLICATIONS. Patrick AVilliams, . whose arrears amounted to £l2, was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, the_ warrant to be suspended so long as 15s. per week is paid. Jarnos AVilson Hagen (arrears £179 Bs.) was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment, the warrant to bo suspended so long as he pays Ils. per week. John Ryan (arrears £lO 10s.) was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment. John Laurence Sullivan (arrears £33) was sentenced to three month’s imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended so long as he pays £2 per week.
