ELECTRIC LIGHT

A SURPLUS OF £12,830 ON YEAR’S WORKING

Electric light figures for the year ended March 31 were presented to the Tramways and Power Houses Committee of the City Council yesterday afternoon. The year’s working has proved quite satisfactory in -ill save that during the winter months the council was not able to supply all the power that could have been sold, and had to insist on certain economies during peakload periods. That will have to bo the case again this winter, but thereafter —with the Mangahao power and the new power-house at Evans Bay available—there should be no bar to Wellington’s electrical progress. During the past twelve months the revenue increased by £6744, whilst the working expenses and special expenditure only decreased by £9O. The capital charges against the undertaking jumped £6258, yet a net surplus of £12,830 is shown, being £396 more than the surplus for 1921-22. The figures are as follow: — 1922-23. 1921-22. Revenue £134,326 £127,582 Working expenses and special expenditure £96,636 £96,546 Capital charges £24,860 £18,602 Net surplus ■ £12,830 £12,434 Units sold 7,685,318 7,180,112
