WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES At the morning call (yesterday a sale of 41 per cent, inscribed stock, 1938, at £97 ss. was reported, and a sale of Bank of New Zealand shares at £2 17s. 9d. was made on ’Change. At the afternoon call sales were reported of National Bank shares at £6 10s. 6d., Union Bank uh ares at £l4 7s. 6d.,» two sales of Bank of New Zealand shares, each at £2 17s. 9d., and a sale of Wilson’s Cement shares at 245. 6d. A sale of Bank of New Zealand shares was made cn ’Change at £2 18s. There was a better demand yesterday for gilt-edg-ed securities. The 4 1 per cent. War Bond, 1938 and-1939, were in demand at £97 2s. 6d., but the 5 per cents, and 54 per cents, were unchanged. Bank shares were in very good demand and the sales recorded show substantial advances. Rumours of fresh issues of shares are in some measure responsible for the advances recorded. Bank of New Zealand shares were 6d. higher, with buyers at £2 17s. 9d.. and Union Bank shares were a shilling higher at £l4 6s. Shares of financial companies were steady and unchanged. There were buyers of National Mortgage shares at £3 15 s., and Wellington Trust and Loan at £5 14s. Gas shares were firm and unchanged.. Insurance shares were v er Y firm. National Insurance shares at £3 16s. 3d. were 9d. higher, and Standard Insurance shares at £1 15s. were a shade higher. Shipping shares were not quoted. M.estport Coal shares were 6d. higher at £1 17s. 9d. Taringamutu Totara shares w«rc 6d. higher, at 31s. Gd., N.Z. Drug shares at £2 19s. 6d. were a shilling dearer.
