ANZAC DAY

ARRANGEMENTS FOR CHILDREN’S OBSERVANCE. The borlies intimately concerned with the children’s observance of Anzac Dav, April 25, have conferred together and definite arrangements have now been made, and have been approved by the executive of tihe; Education Board for this year’s observance on lines similar to those of last year. They include:—

(1) A short morning service at each school, at an hour to be determined by the chairman of committee and headmaster. Arrangements for this service are left entirely in tho hands of the local authorities. The Returned ■' 1 Soldiers’ Association will provide speakers for each school provided application is made to the secretary of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, on or before Monday, April 16.

(2) A special children’s memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Cenotaph, to be erected on the triangle at the junction of Manners and Dixon Streets. This will be attended by representative children to the number of 12 from each school, who will bear not more than six wreaths to lay on the steps of the Cenotaph. The area to be reserved for the children and staffs will bo roped off. (3) In the event of unfavourable weather the service will be transferred to the Town Hall. ■

(4) Although a Sunday tram service will be observed, the tramway authoriti?s agree to provide transport, if necessary. The exact information required by the marshal. Mr. W. Foster, headmaster, Clyde Quay School, should be furnished as soon as possible.

(5) All private colleges and private schools are cordially invited to thg service with similar representation. '6) Gifts of rosemary are invited, and wreaths from the country specially addressed, “Flowers for Soldiers’ Graves, c/o Returned Soldiers’ Association, Featherston Street, Wellington.” will be carried free.

Observance elsewhere than in Greater Wellington will he similarly arranged, but so as to fall in with the individual arrangements of the different communities.
