ABOUT MILITARY DEFAULTERS
RUGBY UNION’S ATTITUDE RETURNED SOLDIERS’ PROTEST The question of military defaulters was again raised by tho New Zealand Ruoby Union, in a letter to the Wellington Rugby Union last night. Mr. J. Prendevilie presided. The parent union forwarded a letter from the N.Z.R.S.A., drawing attention to the faett that these men had been deprived of civil rights, and urging that they be debarred from playing unaer the Rugby Union. . Mr. W. J. Hardham said he was strongly in favour of tho sentiments expressed in the letter. Such men as camo within the category of military defaulters should not be encouraged to plav under the amateur Rugby code. The chairman moved, “That this union approves of the spirit of the letter, and that a copy be sent to affiliated clubs, with a request that they check their rolls and report if there are any players who came under the proposed ban.’] . In a general discussion that followed, it was pointed out that it was not fair to impose on the clubs the task of seeking out military defaulters.
