LORD JELLICOE GOES DEER-STALKING

FINE HEAD SECURED DISCREDITABLE “JOKE” MARS TRIP Dunedin, April 10. The Governor-General, lord Jellico®, returned to Cromwell last night from a deer stalking expedition at Makaroa, at the head of Lake Wanaka, where ho was very successful. One had which he fecured is a. splendid . specimen with a spread of 48 inches,a thirteen pointer, of which his Excellency is justly proud. Few finer heads have come out of this forest. The whole trip his unfortunately been marred by what was evidently intended as a joke at His Excellency’s expense, but one which did not re--4 ’ --fleet, credit on the perpetrator. After His Excellency’s arrival at Cromwell this fine head was on exhibition at his "" hotel, and shortly before 11 p.m. it mysteriously disappeared. Failure to discover it created a serious position. The police made a search immediately, but even with the assistance of the townsfolk no trace could be found, and T'.'.His Excellency had to depart from X™ Cromwell by train this morning without it. The townspeople continued the search, and were rewarded about 9 o’clock when the head was found . be-

Lord Jellicoe was met at the Alex- ' andra railway stat’on by school children, who were addressed hv him. The Governor-General arrived at Dun'i.i, .liedin to-night, and will leave on Thursx htday for Invercargill, where he will be tendered a civic reception. On Saturday he'will embark on H.M.S. Chatham at Bluff, en route for Stewart Island. He will return to Dunedin on April 17, and leave for Christchurch on April
