AUSTRALIA’S NEW NAVAL BASE
ABANDONMENT DECIDED ON By telegraph.—Press association. —COPYRIGHT. Melbourne, April 7. As tho result of the disarmament resolutions adopted by the Washington Conference, the proposed naval base in Cockburn Sound, Western Australia, part of Admiral Henderson’s defence scheme, as being abandoned. Over £1,000,000 has been spent on preliminary work, and arrangements are being made for the disposal of the idle plant and machinery; It is anticipated that after this is disposed of the Commonwealth will have cut its lobs by over half a million sterling.— Press Assn.
