INFLUENZA ON THE CHATHAM
OUTBREAK NOT SERIOUS On receipt of the news of the outbreak of influenza on H.M.S. Chatham, the Minister of Defence (Sir Heaton Rhodes) cabled to Commander Hotham at Hobart, saying that he trusted there were no serious developments. Tho commander replied on Saturday: “Many thanks for your kind message. Chatham had 20 cases mild catarrhal influenza on April 3. Only one more case last three days. All convalescent. Chatham carrying out her programme.” The Chatham was due to leave Hobart for New Zealand yesterday.
