WRECK OF THE CUTTER EDNA
THE NAUTICAL INQUIRY. BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, March 19. A nautical inquiry into tho wreck of the cutter Edna, at Parengaronga. has opened. Captain John Bourke stated that tho vessel was caught in a dangerous position on a Joo shore. It was steering wildly, and he had to keep running. Tie could not redure sail owing to the heavy sea. Eventually he hove-to in a hurricane. During a fog ho saw a break thirty, yards off and ran ashore to save the lives of tlio crew. The hearing is proceeding. John Wilson, master of the Waiotahi, considered that Bourke would be justified in running on instead of heavingto if he thought ho was getting near the North Cano under tho weather coalitions of that night. The inquiry was adjourned.
