WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION’S REPORT ’ Tho report of the Wellington Association for the past season showed that more interest was taken in the game than for many years past. In view of the fact that it was the first season during which an overseas hockey team has visited Wellington, says the report, it may be regarded as the commencement of a new era for the stick game. The high standard .of hoblfey attained during the previous season was maintained if not increased. There are now eleven clubs affiliated to the association, representing 29 teams in all grades. This shows a considerable increase on tho previous season’s membership. In tho schools grade there were . seven teams,. as against six the previous season. Thirtyseven teams entered in the various competitiong rades. Wakatu (senior), Wesley Rovers (junior), Hutt (third grade), and Karori (schools) were tho winners. The only Test match v. Australia was played at Palmerston North, and according to the general opinion of spetators proved to be one of the finest games of hockey ever seen w New Zealand. Two members of this association —Heaphy (Ramblers) a;id Watchman (Karori) were included in the New Zealand team, and Mr. A. W. Manning and Mr. H. Hatch acted as selector and referee respectively. Finance has improved, and a small credit balance is shown. & Arrangements have now been made to form a schools’ hockey sub-associa-tion to undertake the management of hockey in the schools in future, and this ‘ought to prove a decided advantage.
