THE SAVILE CUP FINAL HAWKE’S BAY DEFEAT PAREORA HANDICAP COMPETITION 8Y TELEGRAPH —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. Feilding, March 19. The Savile Cup final was played at Feilding yesterday between Hawke’s Bav and Pareora, Hawke’s Bay proving far superior to their opponents and winning by 13 goals to 3. ' Hawke’s Bay scored four goals in each of the first two spells . before Pareora had scored at all. Hawke’s Bay had tho faster and better-trained ponies. The handicap game. Rangitikei A v. Rangitikei B was also played, the A team having a 2 point and the B a 15-point handicap. The game ended: B 17, A 9.

Great interest was taken in the final for the Savile Cup, and it was generally expected that a keen contest, would eventuate, but Hawke’s’ Bay proved too strong in the early stages of the game, and while Pareora hold their own at the finish they never had a chance of annexing the cup. Hawke’s Bay had the faster ponies and tho younger team. Good combination and hard hitting was a feature of their play. At tho conclusion of the Mr. C. A. J. Levett, vice-president of the Polo Association, in a short speech stated that Hawke’s Bav bad now won the cup twelve times. He congratulated tho team on its win, and asked Mrs. Levin to present the cup to the winning team. Mr. 0. Nelson (captain) returned thanks for the hospitality extended to the teams while in Feilding. Ellworthy. f First spell: Almost immediately at tho commencement Hawke’s Bay attacked and Nelson scored. Hawke’s Bay continued to press. Second spell: Hawke’s Bay, by fine play on the part of Nelson and McKenzie, scored again. A. S. Ellworthy staved off another Hawke’s Bay attack, H. Ellworthy and Orbell assisting, but Hawke’s Bay were, still pressing, Nelson, by a good , hit in to Lyons, scored, e Combination by Hawke’s Bay enabled Nelson to .increase the score by another point. McKenzie and Lyons, working well together, took the ball to the Pareora goal, where McKenzie, with a beautiful hit between his pony’s legs, put the ball through the posts. Third spell: H. Ellworthy put in some good shots, but Hawke’s Bay, with tho faster 'ponies, put the ball behind, repeating the performanco shortly afterwards. A good run by Nairn and Nelson enabled Nairn to add to tho score. Pretty work by Miller and Orbell enabled Orbell to draw first blood for Pareora. Lyons put in a good close shot, and the ■score was: Hawke’s Bay, 10; Pareorn, 1. ~ Fourth spell: Miller got tha ball away r with a lead, but his pony was not fast enough, and Hawke’s Bay saved. I Orbell and Miller put in some cood work, but Hawke’s Bay attacked and got a behind. Hawke’s Bay still attacking, A. S. Elworthy saved, and carried the ball well down the field. Orbell put in a very fine run and just missed the goal with his shot. H. Elworthy scored with a good long shot. „ Fifth spell: Orbell got well away, but Nelson hooked his stick in front of the goal and McKenzie saved and attacked. Hawke’s Bay, with good combination, carried the ball, behind. Nelson and Lyons were prominent in a. repetition of the performance. Some very fast play ensued, both sides showing good form, with tho Parcoia combination improving.
