FIXED FOR MARCH 28 THREE CANDIDATES IN FIELD The writ for the Tauranga by-elec-tion was issued on Saturday. Tho election will bo held on Wednesday, March 28, and nominations will close on Monday, March 19. REFORM CAMPAIGN BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, March 10 Mr. C. E. McMillan, Reform candidate for tho Tauranga seat, opened his campaign at Manawaru. Mr. F. IV. Howard, chairman, stated that Sir “William Herries had expressed a wish that Mr. McMillan should come forward to take his place in Parliament. The candidate said he supported the present Government as the most able party to carry on the business of tho country. The control of dairy produce was imperative. The Meat Control Board had saved the primary producers £575,000 per annum. In reply to a question, lie said he did not approve of the establishing of an agricultural bank. A motion of thanks and confidence was carried unanimously. LIBERAL-LABOUR SUPPORTERS Tauranga, March 10. A meeting of Liberal-Labour supporters was held here last night. It was largely attended, and the following motion was passed unanimously:— “This representative meeting of Tauranga electors expresses its great satisfaction at Sir Joseph Ward offering himself as a candidate for the Tauranga seat, and those present pledge themselves to use their best endeavours to secure his return by a substantial majority.” A general committee was set up, and an executive and subsidiary committees were appointed to work this portion of the decorate in the interests of Sir Joseph Ward. LABOUR CANDIDATE According to the “New Zealand Herald’s” Te Aroha correspondent, Mr. C. E. Bloomfield, who has announced himself as an unofficial Labour candidate for Tauranga, is actively promoting his candidature, and assures the electors that he will definitely go to the poll against all comers. The opinion in Te Aroha is that Mr. Bloomfield is a very negligible quantity in the by-election, and that the chief interest will centre in the fight between the Reform and Liberal candidates.
