FINE TRIAL BY CAMBRIDGE (Rec. March 11, 5.5 p.m.) London, March 10. . Spotting Americans was the new game of a large crowd present to see the Oxford eight’s first appearance at Putney.- Two Americans are included in the eight—Kane, of Harvard, and Mellen, of Middlesex School, Ctncqrd. The latter, who is stroke, made a gieat impression on the spectators. The orew has done only light work. Barrv declared, when he. witnessed the Cambridge full-course trialjjat Putney, Mortlake, yesterday: ‘l’nis crew is the best I hive ever seen at Putney.” The crew got smartly away, and did the course, despite adverse weather conditions, in 21min. 44 tec., achieving a striking performance.— Aus.-N.Z.
