An historic, announcement was made in the Legislative Assembly, regarding the Indianisation of the Army, when Lord Rawlinson, Commander-in-Chief in India, announced that the Government had decided that light infantry or cavalry units would be selected and officered entirely by Indian officers holding the King’s commissions. Those officers would be gradually transferred to selected units, filling appointments for which they were qualified by rank and length of service.
