STAFF PICNIC

The annual picnio of tho National Provident and Friendly Societies. Department was held at Day’s Bay on Tuesday. Although the weather in the early morning was threatening, the committee decided to hold the picnic, and a most enjoyable day was spent. A. lengthy programme was successfully ctu-ried through, the results being as follow:—Cadets’ Handicap: Kells 1, Parker 2. Ladies’ Handicap: Miss Nichols 1, Miss Vercoe 2. Men’s Handicap: Sigley 1. Lamb 2. Whistling race: Mis? Anderson Sigley. Indies’ Novelty Race: Miss Vercoe 1, Miss Anderson 2. Cigarette race: Miss Barnett and Lamb. Men’s Darwinian Race: Kells 1, Sigley 2. Wheelbarrowrace: Miss Anderson and Ashwin. Itolay race: Misses Potts and Nichols and Messrs. Kells and Sigley. Married vvomon’s racei Mrs. Incloaon. j\iarried racot Messrs. Hamilton and Wiggs (dead heat) 1, Spraggon 2. Children’s raoe: Audrey Whitelaw. Consolation prizes, Miss Smedley arid Mr Wood. A tug-of-war was also included in the sports programme and it will be a long time before the partici pants forget the pulls. After the sports programme a tennis tournarn&nt was held, tho winners being Miss Nichols and Air. Hamilton. At the conclusion of afternoon tea the prizes were presented by Mrs. Nicoll.
