DAY’S BAY TOLL GATE. It is proposed by the AVellington Automobile Chib Committee to call a public meeting of motorists to discuss the Day’s Bav toll gate. The subject, was discussed at a special meeting of tho committee yesterday, when it wa.s pointed out that the Government had formerly pronounced definitely against tell gates, and was already collecting special taxation from motorists for road maintenance. Several members expressed tho opinion that although the Day’s Bav Road might bo described as a special case for exceptional treatment, members of other “special cases” would bo brought forward once the principle was conceded. The committee intends to go further into the matter and collect information as to alternative means of raising funds for the Dav’s Bay Road. . Sub-committees worn set up by the committee to deal respectively with roads, legislation, and by-laws. and publicity and membership, and club members who desire to have action taken in any particular direction are requested te get into touch with members of the sub-committees.
