RECENT SALES. The New Zealand Lgan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, Hawera branch, report:—At Kakaramea on January 29, a good yarding of cattle came forward. There was a Wge attendance and bidding was spirited throughout practically the whole yarding being disposed of gt prices satisfactory to vendors. We quote: Fat cows to £5 75.; good conditioned cows, £3 10s. to £4 45.; others, £2 2b. 6d. to £3; works bulls, £2 7s. 6d. to £5 os.; weaner heifers, Jersey cross, to £2 10s.; medium Jerseys, £3 95.; yearling steers, £2 17s. Od. to £3; pigs, 10s. to 28s. At Eltham, on January 31, the largest yarding of stock for some considerable time cahio forward. This consisted of about 2500 sheep and 350 head of cattle- The sheep showed signs of the recent stormy weather which they encountered on the way from the back country, but found buyers at prices a little below those ruling for smaller lines recently. Some very fine bullocks came forward and met with good, competition. A special feature of the sale was an exceptionally fine line of twenty Jersey weaner heifers, whio found a buyer at £6 15s. after spirited bidding between, outside buyers. Bulls and fat cows sold at late rates. Wo quote: S-M. ewes, 225. 9d.. to 245.; store lambs, 20s. 6d.; cull lambs, Ofc. At Waverley on February 2, there was a large attendance. A "heavy -yarding of both sheep and cattle camo forward. Sheep met with very keen, competition. Grown steers eased up a little m price, while store cows and bulls sold well. At the Bulls sale on January 29 there was a good entry of both sheep and cattle, for which there was a good demand throughout, and a total clearance effected. Quotations: —Cull lambs, 12s.
