BRITISH WAR DEBT
UNITED STATES FUNDING LEGISLATION . OPPOSITION STEADILY DECREASING BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION, —COPYRIGHT. (Rcc. February 5, 8.25 p.m.) New York, February 5. According to the New York "Times” Washington correspondent, President Harding will confer to-morrow with leaders of the House and the Senate concerning the British debt legislation. T'ne President will do everything in his power to avoid the addition of an amendment to the Bill providing lor a soldiers' bonus, but should this be done it is expected the amendment will be killed in the Senate. President Harding has received reports that opposition io the funding is steadily decreasing. There will probably be less than twenty Senators against tho measure. It is) pointed' out that the opposition, which will take the ground of too lenient terms, will be unable to overcome the fact that in view of the American Debt Commission’s acceptance of these terms it is improbable the British would accept more stringent conditions if the negotiations were reopened.—-Aus.-N.Z.
