KELBURN TRAMWAY POLL
TO BE TAKEN ON ELECTION DAY
Municipal electors of Wellington are to be. given an even fuller task than usual on Thursday, April 26. On that day they will bo asked to vote for (I) the Afayoralty, (2) City Council, (31 tho Harbour Board, (4) the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and (5) the Kclburn tramway purchase proposal. Tho additional issue was not altogether unexpected, as the cable tramway purchase poll had to be taken sooner or later, and the Mayor considered that it would be folly to contract so much expense as a poll incurs for the one small issue only, so electors will be asked to decide the question on the day they select their Mayor and council.
Tho Mnvor- stated that the exact form in which the Kelburn tramway purchase proposal would be put to thy electors had boon discussed, but as ihad not been before the council, MrWright could not say what it was. All he could say at present was that th., proposal would bo made a straight-out issue.
Still another (a sixth) issue. Tins t<> be faced by the residents and propertyowners of the Onslow district (Nca->« and Khandallnh). . As n, formality, those electors have to he asked whether they are prepared to pay a special rate for t<he privi!cir« cl having - high-pressure water supply and drainage (which will be possiblj when tho Orongorongo water supply scheme ir finished). 'Hiat aucsWon will b« e,slr<«* tho e'oetors of a special rating areaon election day, so that, if carried, tn<? city engineer may make provision for the net/icnlation of the district f nr water, and the survey for drainage may be pushed ahead with, so that tns work will coincide, to some deg’- P( . n t all events, with the Orongorongo contract.
