WONDERS OF PIEZO ELECTRICITY
Many vears a&o it was discovered that certain crystals when vibrated would generate electricity. The vibrations might be set up by sound, thus opening the prospect .of converting sound into electricity. A quite unexpected application of this interestin"’ scientific discovery has been made hv“two British inventors who have developed a silent gramophone and an instrument thev describe as a distant transmitter. In the silent gramophone the listener is provided with ordinary telephone receivers, through which he, and he alone, hears the sound. Any number of telephones mav be connected, but no sound is audible to anvone not so provided. People who live next door to a gramophone flend will welcome this invention with open arms. The distant transmitter is a new kind of invention by which the music of an orchestra may bo transmitted from one part of a hall to another, or from the orchestra in tho theatre to the tea rooms or lounge. It is claimed that the sund is transmitted without .my of tho distortion caused by the usual telephonic transmission.
