BOXING
NAPIER TOURNAMENT. BY Temgriph.—Special Coebespondbnt Hastings, February 5. Ths Napier Boxing Association held a tournament in the Municipal Theatre on Saturday evening, in tho presence of a moderately large attendance. Iho star turn was a professional contest over ten rounds, between A If. Lewis, of Wellington, and Duke Maddox, of Hastings, for a purse of £5O. Maddox received tho verdict, after an easy win. He was too speedy for his opponent, and gave an attractive exhibition of skilful boxing, winning every round. An interesting amateur bout over six rounds was contested between lorn Donovan, of Napier, and D. Clinton, of Palmerston North. Tho home lad won bv reason of his aggressiveness and splendid condition. He forced the fighting during the last three rounds, but Clinton showed great defence, and lasted through tho six rounds.
