WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE SATURDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES There were no transactions recorded at Saturday’s meeting of the Stock Exchange, and during the week only nine sales were registered, as compared with five in the previous week. For the 41 per cent, stocks and bonds 1939. buyers offered £97. and for the 4.J per pent. buyers offered 2s. 6d.

Abraham and Williams ordinary shares were firm at £4, and there were buyers of Goldsbrough, Mort and Co.’s shares at £2 ss. 6d., and Wellington Trust and Loan shares at £5 10s., and the Wellington Gas shares were, steady. Gisborne Gas shares were in demand at 12s. 3d., Napier Gas shares (£10) at £lO 10s., cum dividend, and Wellington Gas shares (£10), at £ll 65., cum dividend. Insurance shares were quiet and prices unchanged. Meat shares were quiet, and so also were transport shares. Woollen shares were steady. For Wellington "Woollen preference shares buyers offered £8 12s. 6d. Hikurangi and Taupiri- coal shares were, unchanged. Timber shares were in strong demand, Lcy-land-O’Brien shares were at 355., and Taringamutu Totara shares at 30s. 6d. Crown Brewery shares were firm at” 395., Howard Smith shares were slightly easier at £2 10s. 3d. Other miscellaneous shares were unchanged. Saturday’s buying and selling quotations were as under:—

CUSTOMS DUTY RETURNS FOR TEN MONTHS The Customs revenue collected at the port of Wellington last month amounted to £184,636, as against £108.732 in January, 1922, an increase of £75,904, equal to about 42 per cent.
