WOOL SALES

WELLINGTON’S CATALOGUE

A wool sale will be held at Napier to-morrow, when 27.500 bales,, the limit fixed hy tho Wool Committee, will be offered. On Wednesday, January li. the Wellington sale will be held, when 25.000 bales will be offered this also bein-r the limit fixed by the Mool Committee. The order of sale and the quantities to be offered by the several brokers are as follow: — • Bales. Levin and Co. fidOO Murray. Ttoborts and Co.. and Johnston and Co. ... 4,075 Dalgety and Co 4>620 Wrio-ht, Stephenson and Co. 1,200 N.Z.’F. Distributing Co. ... 3,400 Wairarapa Farmers Abraham and Williams 1,875 Loan and Mercantile 1,875 25.000

Had there been no limit. Wellington brokers could-have offered 40.000 hales, for -wool has been pouring into the stores for the past two or three weeks. Tim transport difficulty which existed when the wool grower was dependent upon horse traction for tho conveyance of wool has been eliminated bv the motor lorries. Th* stores are full of wool and whatever may be sold nt the local sale cannot bo lifted for ten da vs or more, and if wool is going to be forc<M.l into the stores there mnv be some difficulty in finding storage space; in any case this rush of wool adds greatly to the expense. for it means a great deal of overtime work. It is exnectefl that values nt Napier will be fullv on a par with Wanrmimi rates, if tbev do not exceed them, more especially as regards coarse wool. Buvers appear to have extensive orders and satisfactory limits, and wool will sell freely.
