MATCH AGAINST FREE STATE FIFTEEN

Cape Town, January 9.

The M.C.C. team met a Northern Free State fifteen at Bethlehem. The Free State, batting first, made 170 (Smart 58, De Villiers 26). Jupp took six wickets for 30 inns, Mead two for 11. M.C.C. bad lost two wickets for 135 (Sandham 57, Street 23, Russell 48 not out) when stumps were drawn. The weather was fine, and the wicket good. Free State scored 136 for the loss of four wickets, but the ten last wickets fell for an additional 34 runs, Jupp taking the last five wickets in six overs for 12 runs.
