PROHIBITION IN AMERICA

SENTENCES ON VIOLATORS OB’

THE LAW.

(Rec. January 10, 10.10 p.m.) Washington, January 9.

The Department of Justice has announced that violators of the prohibition laws brought before the Federal Courts since July, 1921, have been fined five million dollars, and sentenced to a total of two thousand years in gaol. An interesting fact pointed out is that the Federal docket in connection with those States which were wet before national prohibition are crowded with prohibition violation cases, while the States which had local prohibition before national have the fewest number of pending cases. —Aus.-N.Z.
