— OBJECTION TO FOREIGN PRODUCTS. - Melbourne, November 3. Mr. W. M. Hughes lias announced that the Commonwealth will not contribute towards the expenses of the Empire Exhibition unless preference is given to Empire foodstuffs and products. It would, he says, bo a reSection on. tho Empire to say that it did not produce what was required, and would also be untrue.—Press Assn. LITTLE SPENT ON FOREIGN TIMBER. London, November 2. Mr. McMahon, replying to Mr. Holton’s letter, says that the impression seems to prevail that vast quantities of foreign timber are being used in the British Empire Exhibition. Out of £300,000 already spent on .construction, less than £lOOO has been spent on materials not produced within the Empire, and that was only in order to’ avoid delay in the construction of the stadium.—Aus.-N.Z.
