MAMMOTH SMUGGLING SYSTEM
AMERICA’S IMMIGRATION AND LIQUOR LAWS BROKEN.
(Rec. September 26 , 9.45 p.m.) Havana, September 25. United States investigators have discovered a mammoth smuggling system whereby Europeans denied admittance to the United States under the quota are got into America, via Cuba. Mock marriages take place to ensure the entry of undesirable women. The system also does a vast business in smuggling liquors into the United States, and millions of dollars are cleared annually in this business, which runs fast motor vessels and is heavily capi-talised.—Aus.-N.Z.
