LOANS TO BRITAIN’S ALLIES LORD BALFOUR’S NOTE CONTRADICTED BY TELEGRAPH.—PBZM ASSOCIATION. —OOPYBIGHT. (Rec.. August 25, 8.40 p.m.) Washington, August 24. Mr. A- W. Mellon, Secretary of the Treasury, has issued a statement contradicting the intimation contained in Lord Balfour’s recent Note that the United States required Britain to guarantee a return of the money loaned to the other Allies during the war. Mr. Mellon declares that the associated and other Allies borrowed on their own account, and produces memoranda to show that this was clear to Britain. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
