PENNSYLVANIA MINES REOPENING

New York, August 24. The bituminous mines are reopening throughout Central Pennsylvania, the miners and the operators having subscribed to the Cleveland agreement. AUTHORITY TO TAKE OVER MINES

(Rec. August 25, 8.40 p.m.) Washington, August 24. Senator Walsh has introduced a resolution authorising the President to take over the mines, and asking for a million dollar appropriation for this purpose. Senator Walsh charged the President and Congress with remaining inactive and waiting until too late to prevent great suffering through the coal shortage.
