COMMUNITY SINGING

THURSDAY NIGHT. A special mid-session night "sing” has been arranged for to-morrow night in the Town Hall, and it is hoped that all people who are unable to attend the mid-day sings will make a point of being present l . Anyone or the many thousands who have attended the weekly sings will testify to the cheery atmosphere that permeates the hall at a sing. Thursday is a big “sing’ night, and will be m charge of three song leaders, Messrs. Temple White, Chariie Webb and Albert Russell, who will run separate sessions, and as no song will be sung m any two sessions a splendid evening s sing is looked for. Mr. Clement Howe is taking charge of the organ from 7.30 to 8 p.m., and the accompanists for the song leaders will be Misses Gladys Watkins, Dorothv Mills, and Mrs. Albert Russell. The committee wish it known that only song books will be used, and these can be obtained from all music stores. The sing is free but tho usual collection will be taken, and after deducting actual expenses, the balance will be handed to tho Sir Arthur Pearson Memorial Fund, to help the civilian blind ot New Zealand. A COLLECTION FOR THE BLIND. Mr. H. Temple White led the community sing at the Town Mall yesterday. Oiving to tho enforced departure from flic usual day, and the fact that a very searching wind was blowing, the attendance was not so good as is usual, but those who did attend appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. In addition to many happy choruses, Mr. G. S. Alhynght sang tho solo of “Home, Boys Homo (Jude), the swinging march chorus, of which was caught up, ana sung w’ith great heartiness. Mr. Frank Crowther presided at the pianoforte. A collection for the blind was taken at tho doors, with the result that £3B 16s. Bd. was donated. ■ A further sing— ta night sing is to be held in the Town Hall tomorrow evening, when the public will be afforded' another opportunity of helping the blind. On Monday evening a community sing was held in tho Kelhum Normal school. Tho sing was led by Mt. I-, Silver (of the Wellington committee), and, besides the choruses, solos were sung by Messrs. W. H. Long, and G B. Macfarlane. The money raised is to bo devoted towards the making of a playground. AT THE FARMERS’’ INSTITUTE. The second weekly “sing” organised for business people employed at the northern end of tho town was held yesterday at the Farmers’ Institute Hall. There was a good attendance and the contributions were materially more than those received last week. Mr. Blandford acted as song leader, and combined with it the duty of accompanist. Tho money raised each week at these “sings”, is to be contributed to the Sir Arthur Pearson Fund for tho Civilian Blind. COURTENAYr.PLACE SING. A “sing,” the proceeds of which will be handed to a local charity, is to be hold at tho Paramount Theatre, Courtenay Place, to-morrow at 2.15 p.m. The leader will be Mr. A. Saunders, with Mr. Frank Crowther as accompanist. !
