The first of the eix publio gatherings of the Salvation Army’s Congress musical festival will take place to-night at the Town Hall, when Commissioner and Mrs. Hodder will be m command. Seven brass bands will render a PTocramrao of selections and marches. A feature of the evening will be the singing of the Christchurch and Wellington city choral combinations, the male quartet party from Oamaru, and the playing of the “Hallelujah Chorus” by the massed bands. The mandolin orchestra from Christchurch will, also take part. To-morrow afternoon in the Basin Reserve a large open-air demonstration will take place at 3 p.m., when 200 bandsmen will be present. Special meetings will be held in the Town Hall at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., to which the public are invited.
