STATEMENTS ABOUT THE MORTON DAM
PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION ASKED TO WITHDRAW. A letter has been sent from the City Council to the Wellington South Progressive Association to state whether it affirms or withdraws statements it made regarding the Morton dam. At a meeting of the association the assertion was made that more than £lO,OOO worth of labour and cement had been expended on the dam since it had boon taken over by the council from the contractors. In addition, it was alleged that owing to the failures of the dam, tho execution of the Oroiigorongo scheme had become necessary earlier than had been expected. Tho Mayor, through tho Press, had denied the statements. Tho council has made it clear that oter matters , upon which the association has made representations cannot be considered until tho statements about tho dam have been withdrawn.
