THE WASHINGTON CONFERENCE
REPRESENTATION OF DOMINIONS LORD NORTHCLIFFE’S VIEWS EXPLAINED By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright Melbourne, September 17. Lord Northcliffe, in an interview, stated that her had never said that Mr. Hughes should go to Washington, as it would 'be incompatible with the dignity of a Prime Minister to go as an unaccredited representative, which he would have to do, in view of the decision of tho United States that the British overseas nations cannot bo specially represented. Ho intended to see that his Press delegation would be representative of overseas opinion, and, with that end in view, ho had appointed Mr. Franklin Peterson, of the “Argus" staff, to go to Washington to advise the editor of "Ths Times” on the position in Australia. Lord Northcliffe sailed for Tasmania on a flying visit.—Press Assn.
