FARMER SENTENCED FOR CRUELTY. My Telegraph—Press Association. ’ Christchurch, September 16. John William Clark, dairy farmer, of Halswell, was to-day sentenced to h month’s imprisonment, for cruelly illtreating a child. Defendant was before the ' Court 'jpn .this charge in February, andl ,was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. The children‘were taimen from him. They were restored to him in April, and the home was kept under sufveillance. It was recently found that one girl, aged 13, had to milk ten cows night and morning; and as a result Clark was brought before tho Magistrate, and sentenced as stated.
