An innovation in the class of warning signal erected throughout the Auckland district by the Railway Department, for the. benefit of the the public. has been introduced at tho Kingsland level, crossing, slates the. Auckland "Star.” It is a '.“wig wag,” the • tauin features lof which are an arm, about three feet six inches in length, with a. red. disc on ■either sidn at tho extreme end, in the centre of which is an electric light. Tho apparatus is. worked Jbv electricity from a mol or which is (ujernted Irv approaching trains when they reach a certain point,on the track. The effect is to set ■• the arm swinging across the footpath, and in addition at night to light up the red disc. Pedestrians have a clear view of the signal from either side. Residents of the district have displayed a inal of interest in the device. Andther such signal, is eaid to be in the Levin district.
