Herlihy (New South Wales Rugby Union), and IT. C. Bennett (South African Rugby Board).. V ........ Originally, a conference was held in New South Wales between the New Zealand and New South 'Wales unions regarding the subject. ■South Africa, was invited to send a delegate, but was unable to do so. At the conference. Messrs, G. IV. Slade and H. Frost (now chairman of the Auckland Union) were, the delegatee. Certain alterations to the rules were decided upon, and they were agreed to by delegates to the New Zealand Union, and subsequently recommendations were forwarded to the English Union in accordance with the decisions of the conference. ’The English' Union, however, would not agree to all the recommendations. The New Zealand and New South Wales unions thereupon decided to have n, conference with the manager of the South African team when the visitors arrived in Sydney prior to coming to New Zealand. Mr, Slade represented' the Now Zealand Union, and the conference was adjourned to New Zealand. It wius resumed yesterday in committee when delegates merely exchanged views, with the. object of giving Mr. Bennett an idea of the reforms that wore required in the rules of tho game, to suit conditions in. Australia and New Zealand. No doubt Mr. Bennett will bring ths matter before the South African Board of Control on his return, nnd that body will then have a better idea of colonial requirements. During the discussion, Mr k Bennett intimated that ho was favourably disposed towards New Zealand’s claim for representation on the English Board of Control.
