THE COMPETITIONS

FIRST DEMONSTRATION NIGHT. There was a large audience present in tho Town Hull last evening-, when the first of three competitions demonstration nights was tho attraction. A lengthy programme of an entertaining character was contributed by tho prize winners,who were all in good form. Pianoforte solos were played by Mr. Edwin Tanner (a scholarship winner) and Master John Smith; songs were given by Misses M. Allan, Joyce Julian, Violet Reith, Clarice Ritchie, Irene Horniblow, Alice Chapman, Lillian Hanham, and Messrs. C. Moss and E. R. Hewitt; recitations by Misses Sinclair Breen, Kathleen Chapple, Hazel Jeffrey, Madge Shearer, Zelma Carroll, Mts. Fryo, Mr. Leopard Power, and Master John Watchman. Miss Betty Jacom'b repeated her dainty “operatic” dance. Miss Thelma M'Kcnzio pattered gaily through a ofog dance, Misses K. Black and E. Wright executed a pretty pas de doux, and Phyllis M'Millan danced a graceful sheantruibhas to tho music of the pipes. Mr. Harold Whittle and Miss Dorothy Talbot were tho accompanists. i Another fine programme is announced for this evening. An invitation has been extended to the members of the Springboks team to attend, and it is understood that a representation will be present.

There will be a special matineo tomorrow afternoon, when the clever children who have scored in tho competitions will offer an irresistible progwimino. The final demonstration concert and presentation of special prizes will take place to-morrow evening.
