NAVAL RECRUITS

MEDICAL EXAMINERS APPOINTED.

Instances have occurred where the JState has been put to unnecessary ex'pense through the sending forward to the Naval authorities of unfit recruits who had been passed by medical practitioners irregularly employed in commands, notwithstanding that they had no knowledge of the physical standards fixed by the Naval authorities. In order to place the 'examination of recruits on a more satisfactory basis the following medical have been appointed to examine applicants desirous of joining the Dominion division of the Royal Navy:— Northern Command. —No. 1 Regimental District, Auckland, to be sent direct to H.M.S. Philomel. No. 2 Regimental District, Paeroa, .Captain G. T. Smith, N.Z.M.C. No. 3 ~ Regimental District, Whangarei, Major J. L. vJ’razer-Hurst, N.Z.M.C. No. 4 Regimental District, Hamilton, Major G. W. Gower, N.Z.M.C. Central Command.—No. 5 Regimental District, Wellington, Major H. A. H. Gilmer, N.Z.M.C. N«V 6 Regimental District, Palmerston North, Captain I. Wilson, N.Z.M.C. No. 7 Regimental District, Napier, Lieut.-Col. J. P. D. Leahy, C.8.E., N.Z.M.C. No. 8 Regimental District. Hawera, Major J. M'Ghie, N.Z.M.C.

Southern Command. —No. 9 Regimental District, Nelson, Captain IV. D. Stoney Johnston, N.Z.M.C. No. 10 Regimental District, Christchurch. Major H. L. Widdowson, N.Z.M.C. No. 11 Regimental District.
