The New Zealand ladies' hockey tournament was continued to-day, with the following results: — Manawatu A 1, Wanganui 1. Poverty Bay -1, Feilding 0. Hawke’s Bay A 4, Wairarapa 1. Taranaki, a bye. Wellington 5, Auckland 0. Otago 3, Hawke’s Bay B 0. ( Marlborough 6, Nelson 0. Manawatu B, a bye. The Manawatu-Wanganui teams fought on even terms. Eventually Manawatu instituted a passing endeavour, which carried play to their opponents’ circle. The shots with which the opposing custodian (Miss A. Reynolds) was taxed were warded off by quick strokes. Well in the second spell Wanganui notched their first goal. The ball was centred to Miss D. Perrett, who made no mistake with a nice low shot ( which beat Miss Hancock, the Manawatu custodian. Wanganui kept their opponents out until about ten minutes before the call of time by solid defensive work. Manawatu’s goal was scored after a corner hit, the ball being sent to Miss Hobbs, who seized tho opportunity and slammed in a shot that beat the opposing goal-keeper. After considerable aggressive play. Miss Hill utilised an opening and secured the first goal for Poverty Bay against Feilding. As a result of neither side playing with combination, the game resolved itself into an individual contest.. The Feilding girls effectually broke up an attempt on the part of their opponents with good defensive hitting. Folding's shots nt goal were either repulsed or hit behind. Poverty Bay's next goal was secured by Miss Hill just before half-time. Poverty Bay's third and fourth goals were also secured by Miss Hill, who played a remarkably good game throughout. In the Hawke’s Bay A-Wairayapa match there was slack combination on both sides, and except for brief 'periods of exciting play the game was exceptionally scraggy. Misses Sharpley and Mayo shot goals for the Hawkes Bay team after melees m front of the Wairarapa net. After the interval Hawke’s Bay resumed the attack and Miss Lean found the net with a beautiful shot. Miss Terry notched the only goal to Wairarapa after a good run down the field. Hawke's Bay’s final goal emanated from a scramble in the circle. Miss Lean seizing the’opportunity and shooting accurately.
