IRON AND STEEL PRODUCTION
MARKED INCREASE IN ENGLAND LAST MONTH. 3 (Rec. September 13, 7.25 p.m.) London, September 12. The production of pig-iron and steel ingots during the last month showed . a marked increase compared with that of July. Forty-six- blast furnaces were operating, compared with fifteen at the end of July. An increasing number of collieries have been rendered idle in the Newcastle district owing to lack of foreign trade, the owners- preferring to stop work rather than incur heavier losses at still lower prices.—Reuter.
