COLLAPSE IN STREET
PEATH OF MB. WILLIAM TOMPSITT
The presence of a crowd of somo 2000 people in Featherston Street at 11.30 a m. yesterday was accounted for by the arrival of a hearse. It appears that shortly after 11 a.m. an elderly man was seen to sway strangely and then fall into a crumpled heap on tho pavement near tho corner of. Featherston and Hunter Streets. By-standcrs rushed to his assistance, and Mr. James Samuels rendered "first aid,” but without avail, for he died almost immediately. The deceased was retognisod as Mr. William Tompsitt, of Holison Street, a gentled man who was well known to a wide circle in the Wallington district. Mr. Tompsitt, who loaves a widow and two daughters (Mrs. Punch, of Raetihi, and Miss Elsie Tompsitt) was a resident of Otaki for moJiy.yeras, and had an extended connection with local bodies in that district. ■Tie had b'eon in. poor health for some time past, though he had been able to get about.
