LOWER HUTT COUNCIL
The fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr E. P. Rishworth), Councillors A. J. Hobbs, A. J. West, W.JK. Dempsey, J. Mitchell, W. T. Strand, J. Brassel, W. Meldrum, and A. M'Bain. „ , The State Advances Office wrote notifying the council that the resolution granting permission to raise a loan at 7 per cent, had been gazetted. The Dannevirke/ Borough Council wrote asking the council to support them in approaching the Government with a view to having legislation considered dealing with contributions towards the construction and maintenance of roads and in adjacent boroughs. It was decided to give the council’s support. Councillor .J. Mitchell forwarded a donation of 6825 towards the. Library Fund The donation was received and Councillor Mitchell thanked for lus handsome gift, which would be appieciated bv the subscribers. . The Wellington Automobile Club wrote stating that they intended to refer the matter of heavy traffic licenses to the Now Zealand Automobile Union. 1 Mr T de C. Bell wrote in reference to gaining a copy of Mr. Ford’s report ■ on the gasworks and questioning the council’s right to increase interest on loans without ratepayers’ sanction.
