SPEED EXAMINATIONS

The director of Gilby’s College has'’received from Sir Isaac Pitman and. Sons, Ltd., Melbourne, the results of a ’shorthand speed examination, held at Gilby’s College on July 27. Twelve candidates for Pitman’s speed certificates were examined, ten of whom were successful, as under: — Doris - Horwood and Grace Judge (100 words per minute); Frances W. Fisher (90 words per, minute); Eleanor Edith Robb (80 words per minute); Ethel Bird (70 words per minute); Ina Cooper, Vena Grind-rod, Clara Johnston, Gwynith Bomerrille, Irene Whitmarsh (60. words per minute). Mr. A. W. Kitson, F.1.P.5., who acted as supervisor, also examined' eight stenotype machine operators, and granted seven certificates to the undermentioned, tho percentage of errors in each case being less than 2 per cent. Miss Frances Cullen rendered her transcript work perfect:— Frances Cullen per minute), 100 per cent.; Vera Charman and Isabel Lithgow (»0 words per minute), 99.5 per cent.; Olive Mitchell (80 words per minute), 99.25 per cent.; Hazel Dewhurst (64) words per minute), 99 per cent.; Brenda Johnston (60 words per minute), 98.7 per cent.; Brough (60 words per«aninute), 98.3 per cent. M*iss Myrtle Simmons, a. writer of Graham shorthand, gained a certificate for 60 words per minute.
