DAIRY FACTORY WORKERS’ DEMANDS

A dispute has arisen between the Wellington Butter and Cheese Factory Workers’ Union and the various co-opera-tive companies in the district, and tne matter has been set down for kenring by the Conciliation Council at Wellington on September 23, at 10.30 n.m. Tne number of parties cited is 120. ‘ The union is asking that not more than 60 hours shall bo worked in any one weete without payment of overtime at the ift © of time and a half, and the wages claimed range from £4 to £5 10s. per. week, according to the number of assistants employed. Among other claims of the union are requests for tho provision of housing accommodation. It is desired that those houses nllocnlcd to married mon shall have at least four rooms, also washhouse and bathroom, and be equipped with hot and cold water service." For those employed from six to eight months it is asked that one week s holiday on full pay be allowed, two tveelra'to be given to those, having over eight months’, service. Double time is claimed for work done on Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Good-Friday, the Sovereign’s birthday, and Dominion Day, or else an extra -day to lx*, added to the annual leave.
