LOWER HUTT AFFAIRS

BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS. A meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council, over which the Mayor (Mr. E. P. Rishworth) presided, was held last evening, when there were also present— Councillors A. ,1. West. W. T. Strand, W- Cotton. J. Brassel, J. Mitchell. W. Dempsey, W. Mcldrum, and A. M'Hain. The Valuation Department wrote sitting that the amended viilucs in the Cudby estate had been objected to, as still being excessive, and requesting that the council appoint an assessor. Mr. 11. E. Leighton was appointed Io act as assessor. A letter was received from (lie Department of Labour requesting a cheque in payment of war bonus due to certain employees. It was resolved that the amount be paid. The Upper Hutt Town Board advised that the various local bodies had agreed to the formation of n power board, and that a conference would lie called in due course.
